Southland has Bible-centered preaching and teaching. The Bible is the book we live by. To live right, we need to think right. And we must learn to think God’s thoughts to be usable to Him and prepare our own souls for an eternity of companionship with Him. This is why Southland Christian Church reads and preaches systematically through books of the Bible.
Our Beliefs
We believe in Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of the Living God. We believe in His virgin birth, His sinless life, His sacrificial death, His bodily resurrection, His ascension to the Father, and His personal return in power and glory.
We believe that you cannot be saved by any work of your own, but only through Christ's finished work upon the cross: "For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast." Ephesians 2:8-9
We believe that every believer should repent and be baptized according the command of the Lord Jesus Christ.
We believe in the Holy Trinity: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.
We believe the Bible to be God’s inspired, inerrant and infallible Word.
We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; the saved to eternal life with Christ, and the lost to eternal condemnation.
Our Leadership
Southland Christian Church uses the New Testament model of a leadership team of Elders.
Our Elders are proven men in ministry.
They are unique in gifting and they fully compliment one another.
“So when they had appointed elders in every church, and prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord in whom they had believed.” (Acts 14:23, NKJV)

I grew up in the city of Bell and was, myself, a "bus kid", picked up and brought to the same church where I now serve as Pastor. I ran away from the Lord, a prodigal, at age fifteen into a life of drug abuse and recklessness. At age 23, broken, I came home to my Father and immediately received the call to serve the Lord in pastoral ministry. I was mentored under one of Southland's founding pastors, Joe Mize.

Alex Orozco Pastor / Spanish Ministry
I have lived all my life in Southeast Los Angeles. My family and I, attended a Spanish speaking church for many years until my children began to grow-up. My wife and I, decided to find a new church as we saw the need in our home and joined Southland in 2016. By the end of 2021, seeing the need again, I accepted the role of interm pastor for the Spanish ministry. I love my community and want to serve the Lord wherever He needs me.

Josh Mize Pastor / Youth ministry
I have always attended Southland Christian Church, as I was born and raised in the church. During my high school years, the Lord used several "disastrous" moments, to humble my heart and expose my sin that I might come to experience his redeeming love and grace. It was through these "Fortunate Falls" that Jesus transformed my life and has called me to minister to other youth in the city I love.

Southland Christian Church has been a gospel-presence in the heart of the 90201 zip code since 1977. We have a vision to be "in the cities for the cities," in three ways:
- Physically - caring for the physical needs of the hurting and underprivileged in our urban community
- Culturally - participating in and shaping all that is good in the culture of our city
- Spiritually - praying for and guiding people toward the freedom and fulfillment that can only be found in Jesus through the proclamation of his Good News.
